History

Autodesk was originally sold through a network of distributors, including subsidiaries such as Corel (founded in 1976) and Polyworks (founded in 1977). In 1982, Autodesk distributed its software on a package-oriented basis and used «direct marketing.» The company directly sold computer-aided design (CAD) software to individual businesses and larger corporations and charged only for the software’s use.
Autodesk’s first logo was created in 1981 by designing a stylized wavy arrow to represent the company’s unique design and marketing direction. The first release of Autodesk AutoCAD was 2.0, released in 1987. It was the first 3D CAD program.
In 1988, Autodesk released AutoCAD LT, which, as its name implies, was designed to be a smaller, simpler and less expensive option for 2D drafting. Subsequent versions added layer-based workflows, parametric solids, interactive families and other features.
In 1990, Autodesk released version 3. Autodesk AutoCAD Architecture version 3 introduced multi-user, multi-platform, object-oriented architecture. In 1992, Autodesk released version 4.5. Version 4.5 introduced a new Graphical User Interface (GUI) and a new 3D drawing environment. The Graphical User Interface allowed for the easier use of the software. It also included a new perspective button, which allowed for the perspective to be changed on an object by double clicking on it. In addition, a new tool bar was created, which allowed the user to customize the view of the application. Last week, the United States announced a historic withdrawal from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty. Russian officials and experts have pointed out that the move was largely symbolic, since the U.S. withdrawal from the treaty would not affect Russia’s rights under the accord.
Under the INF Treaty, both countries promised to eliminate their long-range ground-based missiles, including the U.S. Pershing IIs and the Russian SS-20s.
