Equipped with the right applications, a computer can be of great help in virtually any domain of activity. When it comes to designing and precision, no other tool is as accurate as a computer. Moreover, specialized applications such as AutoCAD give you the possibility to design nearly anything ranging from art, to complex mechanical parts or even buildings.
Suitable for business environments and experienced users
After a decent amount of time spent installing the application on your system, you are ready to fire it up. Thanks to the office suite like interface, all of its features are cleverly organized in categories. At a first look, it looks easy enough to use, but the abundance of features it comes equipped with leaves room for second thoughts.
Create 2D and 3D objects
You can make use of basic geometrical shapes to define your objects, as well as draw custom ones. Needless to say that you can take advantage of a multitude of tools that aim to enhance precision. A grid can be enabled so that you can easily snap elements, as well as adding anchor points to fully customize shapes.
With a little imagination and patience on your behalf, nearly anything can be achieved. Available tools allow you to create 3D objects from scratch and have them fully enhanced with high-quality textures. A powerful navigation pane is put at your disposal so that you can carefully position the camera to get a clearer view of the area of interest.
Various export possibilities
Similar to a modern web browser, each project is displayed in its own tab. This comes in handy, especially for comparison views. Moreover, layouts and layers also play important roles, as it makes objects handling a little easier.
Sine the application is not the easiest to carry around, requiring a slightly sophisticated machine to properly run, there are several export options put at your disposal so that the projects itself can be moved around.
Aside from the application specific format, you can save as an image file of multiple types, PDF, FBX and a few more. Additionally, it can be sent via email, directly printed out on a sheet of paper, or even sent to a 3D printing service, if available.
To end with
All in all, AutoCAD remains one of the top applications used by professionals to achieve great precision with projects of nearly any type. It encourages usage with incredible offers for student licenses so you get acquainted with its abundance of features early on. A lot can be said about what it can and can't do, but the true surprise lies in discovering it step-by-step.

What is AutoCAD?
AutoCAD is a CAD (computer-aided design) software application developed by Autodesk. AutoCAD has its roots in the drafting and design industry, but it now offers powerful architectural and engineering features.
AutoCAD is a software application that allows designers, engineers, and architects to design and draw 2D and 3D models of their design projects. AutoCAD is used to make 2D drawings, 3D models, and animations. The 3D modeling capabilities in AutoCAD are considered state-of-the-art. Autodesk has gone to great lengths to make AutoCAD easy to use, requiring only basic drawing experience to produce excellent results.
AutoCAD is not a vector-based application. Vector-based applications are those that allow the user to manipulate objects (vertices, edges, and faces) without changing the distances between the objects. Using a vector-based application, the user can change the position of a line, for example, and the line will remain straight even if the user alters the length of the line. In contrast, objects in an AutoCAD drawing are defined using pixel coordinates.
AutoCAD’s beginnings and architectural roots
AutoCAD began in the early 1980s as “auto-cad”, and the name came from its original purpose of helping people quickly draw (“auto”) architectural floor plans. The concept for AutoCAD started out in 1980 as a tool to help employees of an architecture firm communicate better, both with each other and clients. There were no computers in the architectural firm, and its two senior architects were trying to collaborate on drawings of floor plans for a development site. Each architect had an own set of pens, rulers, and drafting tools. After a while, each architect worked independently, drawing up the floor plans for a building. They would then hand over the floor plans to the architect in charge of the project. No progress was made, and the drawings of the architects were not communicating.
In the early 1980s, computer technology was still very expensive, and most architects and engineers were using mainframe computers to run their CAD software. The need for

AutoCAD is a programming language for editing geometry and drawing instructions. These instructions, known as commands, are used to perform a specific function on the object. Commands are stored in a table known as the command table, accessed through a programming language called AutoLISP.
Autodesk AutoCAD is a software application for computer aided design. It supports creation of floor plans and two-dimensional architectural drawings, three-dimensional buildings, and technical drawings.
AutoCAD (Automatic Computer-Aided Design) was initially developed by Oxford Instruments as a fully automatic drafting and architectural design system for large-scale government projects such as the Egyptian pyramids. The first version of AutoCAD was released in 1985, when it was a complete CAD system, it was introduced as CADD and offered the ability to perform 3D visualization, and
automated design. AutoCAD was originally developed for use with a Hewlett-Packard HP3000 workstation and was based on the CADD software. CAD is the abbreviation for Computer-Aided Design. Computer-Aided Design is the term that the military would use for a system that allows a draftsman to easily design their own vehicles. The military would then often use this design to build copies for testing purposes. CAD systems are normally considered the state of the art, in fact, when another CAD system was introduced, the person who developed it was often considered obsolete.
The release of AutoCAD was one of the first times that the United States military received a major software upgrade. The original version of AutoCAD came on six reels of tape. The first release of AutoCAD on a single disk was version 2.0.
The original version of AutoCAD was not capable of being used for 3D modeling. However, version 2.0 included a 3D viewer as a separate program (called VoxView)
